Announcing the NRG Series MTGO Invitational
Despite the COVID-19 situation putting the NRG Series on hiatus for the near future and our upcoming in-person events canceled, we’re still passionate about competitive Magic and we won’t stop producing top-quality Magic: the Gathering content! Today, we’re happy to announce our first ever NRG Series MTGO Invitational.
We’ve invited 16 players involved with the NRG Series to compete for charity on Magic Online! Selection for this event was based on previous success on the NRG Series and participation on our social media channels. Here are the 16 players who’ll be competing:
• 2017 NRG Championship competitor and 8-time Trial Top 8 finisher Justin Brickman
• 2019 NRG Championship competitor and 2020 Annual Leaderboard #2 Jack Cummins
• Magic grinder and host of The Dive Down podcast Stanislav Golovchuk
• NRG Series Trial Top 8 competitor and Twitch streamer John Ryan Hamilton
• NRG Indy Top 4 competitor and Twitch streamer Mark Johnson
• NRG Indy Modern Trial winner and accomplished MTGO grinder Will “XWhale” Krueger
• NRG Chicago Top 8 finisher and Grand Prix Top 8 competitor David Lam
• 2016 NRG Series Champion and Twitch streamer Ben Meine
• NRG Series and SCG Tour grinder Connor Mullaly
• 2020 Leaderboard #3 and 2-time Trial Top 8 competitor Adam Raschig
• 2020 NRG Series Leaderboard grinder and Burn aficionado Zoe Riederman
• NRG Series and SCG Tour grinder Harrison Rollins
• MTG commentator, Twitch streamer, and host of the Ponder Podcast TJ Rogers
• NRG Series Trial winner and 2019 Championship competitor Phil Silberman

• 3-time SCG Open Top 8 competitor and NRG Series grinder John Phillip Whetstone
The NRG Series MTGO Invitational competitors will be playing single-elimination Modern constructed. The NRG Series will donate $100 to a charity of the winner’s choice on their behalf. In addition, the Top 4 players will each receive a pack of HyperMAT sleeves and Perfect Size sleeves on behalf of our sponsor, KMC Sleeves.
We’ll be providing top-level commentary for every single match in our bracket by our usual commentary team of Brad Brown, Wyatt Darby, Joe Lossett, and Mat Bimonte, joined by special guest 2-time Championship competitor Simon Kamerow. Each match will be posted on social media and our YouTube channel, so be sure to follow us and turn on notifications so you don’t miss a single moment of the action!
The NRG Series MTGO Invitational is our chance to continue showcasing high-level competitive Magic despite the current situation. We’re excited to do our part by donating to the winners’ charity and providing you with new Magic content in the meantime. Be sure to do your part by participating in social distancing practices and staying updated with the latest guidelines by the CDC.
