NRG Series 2020 Season Two & Points Update

The first few events of the 2020 NRG Series are in the books! Thank you so much to all of the players who participated in our $10,000 Trial Weekends in Gurnee, IL and Indianapolis, IN to start the year off strong. Today, we’re excited to share the schedule for Season Two of the NRG Series and an update to our point distribution structure. Let’s dive in!

Season Two Schedule

We still have two Trial weekends left in Season One, starting with our Team Constructed and Pioneer Trials in Milwaukee. Then, we’ll officially end Season One and kick off Season Two with our $15,000 Modern Showdown weekend in Naperville. However, it’s never to early to share the rest of our Season Two schedule! Here’s when and where you can get your NRG Series fix this spring and summer:

Date Location Saturday Event Sunday Event
April 25-26, 2020 Lansing, MI $5,000 Trial – Pioneer $5,000 Trial – Modern
May 16-17, 2020 Chicagoland, IL $5,000 Trial – Team Pioneer/Modern/Legacy $5,000 Trial – Team Pioneer (non-unified)
June 6-7, 2020 Milwaukee, WI $5,000 Trial – Legacy $5,000 Trial – Modern
July 25-26, 2020 Chicagoland, IL $10,000 Showdown – Pioneer $5,000 Trial – Legacy*

* Note that the $5,000 Legacy Trial on July 26 will be the first event of the Season Three leaderboard race.

That’s right, the NRG Series will be visiting our sixth state next season as we travel to Michigan for the first time! We’ve had quite a few players traveling to our events from Michigan and we’re pumped to have the chance to visit the “Great Lakes State” ourselves.

Season Two also brings a new event format to the NRG Series: non-unified team constructed. Other major tournament series have begun offering non-unified team constructed events in the last year and we’re very excited that we’ll be showcasing Team Pioneer at our $10,000 Team Trial weekend in Chicago this May.

Points Update

Season Two of the 2020 NRG Series also brings with it an update to our point distribution structure. After seeing how the first couple of events of 2020 played out and how the leaderboard is shaking out, we’ve decided to slightly modify the number of points awarded at each event.

Since we’re already halfway through Season One, this change will not affect the Season One leaderboard race. This change will be effective for Season Two, starting on April 5th. Therefore, the Season Two, Season Three, and Annual Leaderboard races will be using the new point distribution shown below. To ensure that the Annual Leaderboard race remains balanced, all points earned during Season One will be retroactively converted to the new point distribution once Season Two begins.

Take a look at the new NRG Series Trials point distribution:

Finish Previous Point Distribution New Point Distribution
1 20 30
2 18 25
3-4 15 20
5-8 12 15
9-16 8 10
17-32 4 5
33-64 2 2
65+ 1 1

The point distribtion for Team Trials:

Finish Previous Point Distribution New Point Distribution

5-8 12 10
9-16 8 5
17-32 4 2
33-64 2 1

And of course, here’s how the new point distribution will apply to the $10,000 Showdown events, again starting with the Season Two Showdown on July 25th :
